HONOR’s MagicBook Pro- All it’s exciting features

by Bobby Coyle

HONOR isn’t particularly known for its laptops as the company has focused more on wearable technology and smartphones. However, with the Honor MagicBook Pro Ryzen Edition which was officially released earlier this year, it seems the brand has decided to break into the premium laptop space. With a 16.1-inch display and AMD’s new Ryzen 4000H-series processor, the MagicBook Pro is one of the best laptops under $1000 that we have seen this year.

If you decide to buy MagicBook pro, you’ll be getting a good bargain as this laptop can hold its own among other more expensive laptops out there.

Noteworthy Features of the MagicBook Pro

Design and Build

With a full aluminum chassis, a sandblasted shell, and a large “HONOR” engraving on the shell, the MagicBook Pro has a premium look from the start. Weighing only 1.7kg, this laptop is quite thin. It’s so light that you can carry it with one hand without the fear of dropping it.

The laptop’s keyboard is backlit, which allows you to use the laptop even when it’s dark. While it’s not a mechanical keyboard, it’s actually a great membrane keyboard and it doesn’t affect ones typing speed or typing accuracy. The keyboard houses a 1MP camera which is located between the F6 and F7 function keys. All you have to do is click on the key and the camera pops out. This unique feature is great for people who may be conscious of their privacy.

On each side of the keyboard lies a pair of dual speakers. At the top of the speaker on the right-hand side is the power button which comes with a built-in fingerprint sensor, which is quite brilliant if you think about it.

MagicBook Pro’s Performance

This laptop is fast! It comes with the latest Ryzen chip from AMD, the Ryzen 4000H-series processor. Backed up by 512GB of PCle SSD storage and a 16GB RAM, this six-core 3GHz Ryzen 5 4600H CPU is responsible for the MagicBook Pro’s high-performance. For a laptop within its price range, it holds up pretty well against its rivals. While it might not be fast in games or other graphics-intense tasks compared to more expensive laptops, the MagicBook Pro still holds its own.

Display

Due to its 90% screen-to-body ratio, it is impossible to position the webcam on the laptop screen. That is why the webcam is located on the inside of the keyboard. The colors of the MagicBook Pro are quite good, due to its 100% sRGB color gamut. There’s also an eye comfort mode that filters blue light to relieve visual fatigue. This feature can be enabled by assessing the “Display Manager”.

Battery Life of the MagicBook Pro

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H is quite low at 45W. This feature combined with the 56 WH battery means you won’t have any problem with battery life. On a single charge, you can get up to 11 hours of offline 1080p video playback. Another great feature is the 65W fast charge USB-C charger which can charge up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
